My twin sister Nadya and I have been staying in England for only a few years now. Before, our home was Russia with our father and mother. We'd still be living there if it wasn't for the war. Our father would still be alive. Instead, our mother sent us here, to stay with our uncle in some remote area on this dreary little island and to attend Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Stupid war.
Some of my instructors might say that I don't apply myself very well. My uncle puts it a bit more bluntly: he says flat out that I'm lazy. I don't know what they're complaining about, though - I always get excellent grades. Even so, my uncle tells me, "Пан или пропал". "Pan ili propal." It's a Russian proverb which is supposed to inspire people to greater heights. "Pan ili propal." "Do or die." "All or nothing at all." Although, if you want a more literal translation, it means "Become a master/gentleman or become a dead man." When my uncle says it? It sounds like a threat.
